I found this story in the New York times. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/01/health/01brod.html?_r=1&ref=health The soul purpose of this article is to make the readers aware of the miconceived conception that at home DNA tests are 100% reliable, they are not.
I have a hard time grasping that people would be so neglectful to themselves because a piece of paper says that there is no need to worry. If I was told that there was no genetic history, in my family, of lung cancer, would I allow myself an extra pack of cigerettes a day? Well no!
Just because you spit onto a piece of plastic and send it off to a lab and they send you back your genetic history, does not mean that you are safe. There are alot of people in this world with diseases that do not run in the family history. Maybe they are the first in what will become a long line of problems. Maybe not, it is possible for one person in an entire hisory of family related wellness or sickness to be different.
Everyone is different, whether your are related or not.
Pretty good first news post.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, was your computer salvageable? If not, you might want to look into either an e-machine, or a Netbook (teeny little acer laptops sell for about $275--and might be easier to prevent children from crashing) from Walmart.
