Feds Sign Up Locals to Help Enforce Immigration

http://www.nytimes.com

On friday, the Department of Homeland Security announced that the Obama administration signed up 55 state and local enforcement agencies to help with the enforcement on immigration laws. Another 12 have been approved and are awaiting the local and state approval. Included in the agencies that signed up is Arizona's county sheriff Joe Arpaio, who is under investigation for racial profiling. The administration, had, previously suspended this program because it was said to have been mismanaged. Arpaio has been given permission to participate in this new agreement. He will not have all of the controls that he once was allowed.

I do not believe that he should be allowed to participate. Well, at least until there has been some closer to the current investigation that is against him. I do believe that there needs to be enforcement, actual enforcement in place and acted on. It does us no good to have the laws concerning this problem in place if there is no one that will enforce it and make it stick.

I do not have a problem with immigration itself, but, I do have a problem with illegal immigration. We are all held to certain laws that we must abide by, debts we are responsible for, and taxes we have to pay. Illegal immigrants do none of these things. If they want to live in our country, work in our country, and raise families in our country, then they ought to be here legally and be made to follow the same guidelines and rules that everyone else has too.
