A 15-year-old boy’s loose talk on a school bus resulted in his detention at Joplin High School on Wednesday. According to other students on the bus, the boy bragged about being in possession of prescription pills with the intent to sell them to other students at school. After a search of the backpack, numerous pills were found, including Darvocet, hydrocodone, muscle relaxers and antihistamines. Cpl. Chuck Niess stated that the juvenile has been detained and referred to the proper juvenile authorities.
Where did the boy in question get the pills? If they are proven to be from the child's parents, then what happens to the parents? Do they face some sort of consequence for not keeping their drugs locked and away from their children?
I am not sure how to comment on this, I want to be outraged that a child was found in possession of prescription drugs, but it is getting to be common. Which in itself, angers me too. I am just not sure how to comment on this article. When I first saw the heading, I thought that this would be a good article to blog on, because I would not have a shortage of things to say, and it has turned out to be quit the opposite. What is this world coming to when we cannot trust our children? I just honestly have no idea.
This is more common today then ever. You are right this is hard to comment on. I guess my first question would have to be is why is there so many pills in the home. The next question is why haven't the parents noticed them missing.
ReplyDeleteAs a father of a 15 year old boy, I'd like to say this could never happen with my son, but I'm learning each day that he is far craftier than I could imagine. You raise your children 'right' and bring them to church, and have 'talks' with them, but all it takes is for them to start following the wrong crowd, to completely un-do and undermine everything you've worked so hard to instill in them. It's a very scary thing, parenting teenagers.
